Methods to Meet TSI Obligation

TSI obligation in math is met with any of the following criteria:

  • TSIA2 Math 950 or Diagnostic 6
  • A grade of C or better in MATH 0315 or MATH 0320
  • A grade of C or better in MATH 0306 or  MATH 0308
  • According to the major, students may choose one of several math pathways. For the non-algebra intensive pathway (MATH 1332/MATH 1342) the TSI obligation is met with a grade C or better in MATH 0306 or MATH 0308. MATH 0306 or MATH 0308 does not meet the TSI obligation for the STEM pathway. MATH 0315 or MATH 0320 meet the TSI obligation for the STEM pathway.
  • Students having a test score from an alternative testing instrument (e.g., SAT or ACT) should see an advisor.
  • Classified as college ready in math according to a college prep course completed at a high school district partnered with COM
    • College prep courses are valid for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of high school graduation.

TSI obligation in reading and writing (ELAR) is met with any of the following criteria:

  • TSIA2 945-990 ELAR/CRC test AND 5 or higher on Essay OR 910-944 on CRC with 5-6 on Diagnostic Test + 5 or higher on Essay
  • A grade of C or better in IRW 0320
  • A grade of C or better in ENGL 0360 (taken prior to fall 2014) or equivalent
  • Students having a test score from an alternative testing instrument (e.g., SAT or ACT) should see an advisor.
  • Student is classified as college ready in writing and reading according to a college prep course completed at a high school district partnered with COM
    • College prep courses are valid for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of high school graduation.
  • Students having passing scores from older developmental courses such as READ 0370 should see an advisor.

Designated Courses Demonstrating College Readiness

The following are the freshman-level credit courses offered at COM that are designated college-level courses for the purposes of demonstrating college readiness in reading/writing (ELAR) and math. Students must not register for these courses until the student has completed the developmental courses that are the prerequisites for the college course.
