Tutoring Center

Writing Tutors

COM’s writing tutors are located in the Tutoring Center, Room 109 of the Industrial Careers Building. Tutors provide one-on-one assistance for students at any stage of the writing, reading, and oral presentation processes. They also offer additional support for writing resumes, cover letters, and scholarship essays. Support is available in-person, online, or via e-Tutoring sessions during the Tutoring Center’s operating hours. The center also offers two study rooms where students can record speeches or practice mock interviews.

While walk-ins are welcome for quick questions, students are encouraged to schedule an appointment for more focused assistance. Appointments can be made online, by phone, or in person. To make an appointment, visit https://www.com.edu/tutoring for instructions, or use WCONLINE at https://com.mywconline.com/. For the most up-to-date hours and tutor availability, or to see which courses tutors are supporting, please contact the Tutoring Center directly.

Math, Science, and Specialized Content Tutors

COM’s math and science tutors are located in the Tutoring Center, Room 109 of the Industrial Careers Building. Math tutors provide free walk-in tutoring services. Most math tutors are able to assist with the math courses offered at COM, though not all tutors cover every math course. Science tutoring is available based on tutor availability, and if a tutor is available for your course, tutoring will be provided on a walk-in basis.

Additionally, tutors offer support for specialized content in subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Business courses, and Computer Science. For current hours, tutor availability, and a list of courses supported, please check with the Tutoring Center.

While appointments are not required for specialized content tutoring, they are available if preferred. To meet with an online specialized content tutor, an appointment is required. Instructions for scheduling an appointment can be found at https://www.com.edu/tutoring, or you can schedule through WCONLINE at https://com.mywconline.com/.

Please note: Appointment availability for math, science, and specialized content tutoring may change based on tutor availability. Not all tutors are capable of online appointments. For more details, contact the Tutoring Center at (409) 933-8703 or by email at tutoringcenter@com.edu.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are COM students who have successfully completed a specific course with a high level of proficiency and have demonstrated a strong understanding of the course material. These students are selected to lead review sessions for others currently enrolled in the same course. SI Leaders are trained to help fellow students enhance their learning through effective study strategies, note-taking methods, and exam preparation techniques.

SI Leaders schedule regular review sessions outside of class hours, offering additional academic support to reinforce key concepts, clarify difficult material, and provide opportunities for students to ask questions in a collaborative environment. These sessions are designed to complement, not replace, regular class instruction and are intended to help students succeed by providing extra help and enhancing their understanding of the course content.

If you are enrolled in a course with an SI Leader and wish to attend a review session, or if you are interested in learning more about becoming an SI Leader yourself, please stop by the Tutoring Center or contact us via email at tutoringcenter@com.edu for more information.
